ITA Remedial Workshop

International Students who are not successful on the August evaluation of classroom English for teaching assistants are required to take the following course:

ESL 5313 Classroom Communication and Presentations
This three credit hour course focuses on improving the interpersonal and intercultural communication skills of second language speakers as well as their ability to participate in classroom discussion and oral presentations in English.

Students WorkingComponent Goals and Objectives:
Students will:

  • improve their understandings of cultural expectations in the classroom
  • improve their use and understanding of idioms and proverbs
  • learn to avoid miscommunication and clarify their intentions
  • learn to be successful in group discussions and projects
  • learn how to utilize visual aids, i.e. posters, overhead projectors, PowerPoint
  • learn techniques for presenting or teaching information
